Description
This is a beautiful Danish dining table, designed by Svend Madsen and manufactured in Denmark in the 1960s. This cleverly designed and elegant table is compact and space saving but features two additional leaves that fit in place to allow the table to be easily extended to accommodate extra diners. The top has a beautiful wood grain above the tapered legs and the table can be extended in two stages, allowing 3 different lengths to be set. When unextended, this table sits 4 and has one of the smallest footprints of any dining table but then extends to accomodate either 6 or 8 diners.
The overwhelming majority of Svend Madsen’s furniture was designed in the 1960s and his creations epitomise the Danish Modern style. He favoured warm teak and rosewood, organic silhouettes and minimal decorative details. Madsen created desks for the Danish makers H.P. Hansen and Sigurd Hansen. He also designed sideboards and dining tables for K. Knudsen and Son. These classic mid-century dining tables and sideboards designed by the Danish furniture designers of this period are still highly valued throughout the world to this day.
Condition is super as we’ve had the table top refinished by a professional furniture restorer.
