Description
This is a truly stunning Danish sideboard, designed by Bernhard Pedersen and manufactured in Denmark in the 1960s. The big attraction of this impressive credenza are the oh-so-cleverly designed tambour doors. These doors are wonderful to look at and to work with. Their, almost imperceptible, sections fold away into the body of the sideboard to allow full access to the cabinets and drawers behind but without the need to swing large doors out the way and into your room space. Behind these wonderful doors sits a central bank of tray-style drawers. Two of the drawers are lined with green felt and all four of the drawers slide out completely and can be used as trays. To either side of the drawers are two large cupboard spaces with height-adjustable shelving.
Bernhard Pedersen & Son is a family owned furniture maker, still trading today, with a strong tradition in high quality cabinetmaking since the company’s start in 1902. The 1950s and ’60s were characterized by some of the most stunning and well-executed pieces in Bernhard Pedersen & Son’s history. During this period, and still to this day, the classic mid-century dining tables and sideboards designed by Danish furniture designers, including the world-renowned architect Johannes Andersen, were highly valued by BPS customers throughout the world.
This sensational sideboard has been refinished to a high standard by a professional furniture restorer. Condition is super. Traces of one mark remain, on the top of the sideboard towards the left hand side, but this doesn’t detract from the stunning appearance and fantastic build quality of this piece.
