Description
This early example of a vintage Librenza room divider is made from afrormosia with ebonised shelves and designed by E Gomme for G Plan in the late 1950s. It features those, very retro, ‘dansette’ style legs and has adjustable feet. This elegant mid-century storage and display unit has shelf space that could be used for books or to display items. It has a built-in bureau and a lower cabinet with sliding doors and a removeable shelf. This piece could be a home for your stereo and vinyl or could be used as a vintage drinks cabinet. A stunning and rare piece of furniture that can be either placed against a wall or used in the centre of a room as a divider.
British furniture manufacturing company G-Plan was launched in 1953, but its roots go back to 1898, when Ebenezer Gomme set up a fine woodworking atelier, E. Gomme Ltd., in High Wycombe. The company was revered for its range of high-quality sideboards, tables, and other cabinet goods.
Structurally sound and in nice unrestored original condition. Some signs of age and use, notably to front left of the top of the lower cabinet and around the handle of the left hand lower cupboard door (see photos). We’ve priced the unit to reflect this. If you don’t mind your vintage showing its vintage then this stylish piece of mid century furniture could be just perfect for you.
