Description
Merrow Associates circular glass table with chrome base designed circa 1971 by Merrow’s founder, Richard Young. A former Royal College of Art student, he later studied at the Royal Art Academy Copenhagen under Professor Old Wanscher. Richard was obsessed by quality and the kind of meticulous detailing typical of Scandinavian furniture of the 1950s. He used beautifully finished glossy surfaces – a juxtaposition of wood, steel and glass – as substitutes for patina and marquetry. . Most of the items where produced on a limited run and retailed in high-end furniture stores. They used teak and rosewood and chrome plated steel. with flat surfaces and very specific bolts. The company traded for only 10-15 years.
As you’d expect, there is some scratching to the glass but nothing that detracts from the stunning look of the table.
