Description
A rare and stylish Hillestak coffee table designed by Robin Day for Hille in the 1950’s. The table has a fruitwood top surface on a beech frame.
Originally conceived as low-cost furniture, the range was inspired by the plywood work of Alvar Aalto and Charles and Ray Eames and proved to be one of Hille’s early successes.
The Hille furniture company was started in the East End of London in 1906 by Salamon Hille. Hille’s most famous designer was, of course, Robin Day. From the very outset Day was given carte blanche to design whatever he wanted and to have prototypes built. Day is most famously remembered for his best selling product, the Polypropylene chair, the first of which was the polyside chair in 1963.
This super vintage coffee table is in nice unrestored condition and ready for use in your home. As you’d expect, some signs of age and use.
W66 x D60 x H50cm (The table top itself is square shaped: 60x60cm)
