Description
A stunning set of six Arne Vodder chairs with fabric seat pads. These elegant dining chairs were designed for the Danish manufacturer Sibast and are made from teak. Each chair features a sculpted solid teak frame with gently curved top rail and slender vertical back spindles. The tapered legs and precise joinery reflect Vodder’s craftsmanship. A fine example of mid century Scandinavian design.
Arne Vodder is one of the great Danish designers of the mid 20th century. Vodder had an impressive start in the design world, being trained by Finn Juhl and going on to work with him. He later opened a studio in 1951 with Anton Berg and the pair designed low-cost houses which proved to be extremely popular. Furniture became his main focus however and he designed for various companies such as Fritz Hansen, Cado and France & Son. Vodder’s designs are known for their understatement, elegance, rich timbers and organic edges. His pieces are truly timeless and are, unsurprisingly, still in hot demand.
These mid century modern Scandinavian dining chairs are structurally sound and in nice original condition with, as you’d expect, some signs of age and use. Some fairly faint marks to some of the fabric, that may well disappear with a shampoo. A total of 5 spindles have been replaced, across 4 of the chairs (see photo for example). We’re pricing these low, to leave you budget should you wish to recover the seat pads. We can recover for you in black faux leather. Please contact Stuart if you’d like a price for this option.
