Description
This is a set of very desirable mid century dining chairs with black vinyl seat pads designed in Denmark in the 1960s by Niels Koefoed and manufactured by Koefoeds Hornslet. These beautiful high back chairs are truly elegant in their design.
Danish furniture designer and factory owner Niels Koefoed created a wide range of dining room furniture in the typical Danish modern style during the mid-century period. Named after the town it was located in, the furniture factory Koefoeds Hornslet was founded by Koefoed’s father Einar Koefoed in the 1920s.
In 1961, Koefoed designed the ladderback Lis Chair, which was produced by Koefoeds in a choice of teak or rosewood. The Lis Chair was part of a series of three dining chairs, the other two being the highly-organically shaped Ingrid Chair and the Eva Chair, all of which are believed to have been named after important women in Koefoed’s life, Ingrid being Koefoed’s daughter.
The chairs are structurally sound and the wood and vinyl seat pads are in nice condition. If we’re to be really picky, the cushioning has ‘squashed’ down a little at the very front of one of the chairs. We’ve photographed this but it’s tricky to capture as it’s minimal and of little consequence. Apart from this small area on one chair, the seat pads remain plump, well cushioned and very comfortable.
