This is a super cool mid century smoked glass oval table & 6 swivel chairs designed and manufactured by Chromcraft in the 1970s. The chairs all swivel and have lucite back rests with fabric seat pads on ‘star’ bases.
Established in 1908, Chromcraft continue to manufacture furniture to this day. During the 1960s, Chromcraft became the leading US manufacturer of dining sets. It was during this period that the Chromcraft Sculpta Chair, famously featured in the original Star Trek series, became an iconic piece of mid-century modern furniture design. Into the 1970s and Chromcraft becomes a house name, investing in advertising across multiple media. Consumers were exposed to the Chromcraft name on national television, newspapers and interiors magazines.
This is a fantastic set in super original condition and ready for use in your home. Things to note. All glass tables of this period come with scratches. I don’t mind this but, if you did wish to have new glass, your local merchant will cut this for you at little cost. The metal legs look super. As you’d expect, they have tarnished a little. Difficult to capture this but it genuinely doesn’t detract from the amazing aesthetic of this set. One chair has a break to the plastic under the seat pad (see photo). This doesn’t affect use and the break is likely decades old.
The glass lifts off of the pedestal below for easy moving.
