  • Description

These are rare and super stylish dining chairs, designed by John and Sylvia Reid and manufactured in England in the 1960s. With great looking legs in nickel-plated stainless steel and a teak chair backs, the look and style of these S range pieces have an enduring feel that is still much sought-after by collectors today. Rarely available, this is a stunning set of mid century dining chairs.

John and Sylvia Reid were both working architects, and gained valuable experience working for influential British designer Robin Day and Hille in the early 1950s. They were asked to design a range of furniture for Stag, and fostered a 10-year partnership between 1952 and 1962 with the manufacturer. Taking inspiration from the prevailing Scandinavian designers of the time, and drawing on their architectural background, John and Sylvia were among the pioneers of British Mid Century Modern furniture.

These fantastic chairs are strong and structurally sound. We had a dilemma over the seat pads and opted not to recover as we felt the to-die-for patina of the original leather was just too good to loose. The seat pads look amazing but there were some tears to the leather. We had a professional upholsterer repair these with needle, thread and a little glue. See photo for clarity. Any questions? Please get in touch.
