Description
A stunning teak sideboard by BCM. Two single cupboards, with removeable shelves, sit to the left of a bank of three drawers, the top drawer with felt-lined cutlery divider. The drinks cabinet on the far left has a drop-front door with a lined surface where bottles and glasses can be safely placed without marking any of the wooden surfaces. This is a sideboard with a sleek appearance and several design elements that mean it stands out from the crowd. Take a close look at the shaping to the edges of the drawers and cupboard doors. Also of note are the beautiful handles and that little retaining edge that runs along the rear of the top surface. This truly is an eye-catching piece of cabinetry.
Bath Cabinet Makers began producing furniture in 1892 in Bath, Somerset. The firm’s work was regularly featured in the highly respected magazine of the time – The Studio – and soon began to receive international prizes. A variety of styles was produced, from Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Arts and Crafts to the streamlined ‘Modern’ designs of the mid century period. Important contracts included furniture and fittings for Cunard’s luxury liners – the Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth.
At some point, a hinge has started to work loose from the drop front door (see photo). Someone has added glue to secure this. Although the surface has broken up a little, the mend holds firm.
